That would be useful, yes. (Especially if they didn't require you to know the topic id as well - makes it easier to find the 1000th/2000th/3000th/4000th post)

OK, anyway, it was a question, so obviously the answer is "no".. its relatively easy to add, but there may need to be a function created to return a valid "action url", I'll chuck the detection code in though, (a line or 2 in index.php)

the preliminary code is there (the checks and everything), just need to construct a sql statement  in the new function file that can check if the "permalink" is real, and return the correct info to go straight there

It already does the number one doesn't it, this on is a query string that has no var= assignment, just the lower case text of the topic title with - as space (so it does not need de-encoding), similar to the 110mb/SMF perma-links (without the .html or the mod rewrite rules)

How are post numbers done? I thought it could only be linked to by knowing the topic id as well as the post...

I thought there was some permanant link link already done, I remember ages ago, christmas maybe, someone asking about it, and some discussion about it.

if its not done, then topic id in some format (8-16 digits) could be done, but the post part, unless there is actual changes to the way the post are out put, and or mod rewrite is used, #3456 will need to be on the end to get the "post"

most browsers can be scripted, or the single post only could be output, again, its code..

edit: it could be used for "special" and/or "hidden" posts, for example "special signups", etc
